AFL Official Future Picks — The AFL publishes a consolidated Future Picks list each trade period. This is the authoritative record of which club holds each future draft selection, sourced via the Convex API endpoint (/api/board). All Confirmed picks trace back to this list.
A self-hosted Crawl4AI instance scrapes the official AFL Future Picks page every 6 hours. The output is validated, transformed into structured JSON, and written to the Convex data store. The 6-hour cadence balances freshness against rate-limit good citizenship.
Before any captured data reaches the live API, a manual review gate must pass: a human verifies that picks match the official source and that trade annotations are correctly attributed. Data only becomes visible on this timeline after gate approval. The Provisional tag means the pick is sourced but pending gate confirmation; Hypothetical marks modelled projections that cannot be confirmed from the official list alone.
The projected 2026 draft order reverses the Squiggle final home-and-away ladder (lowest finishing position → earliest pick). Caveats: the projection does not account for (a) finals results, which affect the bottom-six order; (b) free-agency compensation picks; or (c) academy/father-son matching bids that adjust the order. The projected order rail at the top of the page is labelled Provisional for picks affected by these unknowns.
Picks from 2027 and 2028 are shown at round level only (Round 1, Round 2, etc.) because the AFL does not release exact future pick numbers beyond the upcoming season. Round labels come from the official Future Picks list; where a club's pick position within the round is unknown, no number is displayed.
Confirmed — pick appears on the official AFL Future Picks list and has passed the review gate.
Provisional — sourced from the official list but awaiting review-gate confirmation; order projections are inherently provisional.
Hypothetical — modelled scenario (e.g. what-if trade outcome or estimated ladder finish) that cannot be sourced from the official list. Use with caution.
The header badge shows the live data source (e.g. AFL Official). The Updated timestamp reflects when the data was last captured by Crawl4AI and passed the review gate. The green dot in the status bar indicates a successful load from the Convex API; red indicates a fetch failure.
A future Player Directory view will cross-reference AFL-listed players on a pick-by-pick basis. Methodology: player status sourced from the official AFL 2026 Free Agency list (restricted/unrestricted/delisted); club history from official AFL season-by-season roster and appearances data; contract length and value will be shown only where publicly confirmed — unknown contracts remain labelled unknown rather than guessed.
The Round 3+ filter includes every pick from Round 3 onward for compact viewing. Pick numbers shown are the actual AFL-assigned numbers where available; picks without a known exact number display ? rather than 0 to avoid ambiguity.
